A MOSTLY Spoiler Free Review Of 'Man of Steel' Directed By: Zack Snyder

Holy shit, what did I just watch?  Is Zack Snyder a 10 year old kid with A.D.D.? (*Author's note, no offense to 10 year old kids with A.D.D., but let's be honest, none of you are filmmakers.)  Man of Steel is a hectic jumbled mess with no coherent sense of pacing or plotting.  Snyder never slows down for a minute to take a breath and really reflect on his characters, his story, or his film.  Some of the actors put in good performances for the material they are given, but the script is laughably bad, and even great actors like Kevin Costner, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and my favorite, Michael Shannon can't save the piss poor writing, and direction.  As I suspected going into it, the film looks like it's been laminated by some sort of giant Snyder-lamination-machine giving it all a waxy look that is just kind of unpleasant.  Oh, P.S. Richard Schiff from The West Wing is in this too! So that's cool.  (Instead of subjecting yourself to this garbage, go watch The West Wing.  It's a great show!  Ok, Back to M.O.S. (Mess of Snyder,)  The action sequences were nearly incomprehensible, It's the same issue I have with Michael Bay's direction of action.  There are many pieces of dialog that were unintentionally funny, including, but not limited to: "We have a child.  A Boy child." and "It's supposed to go in all the way."  Finally, there's the tone of the movie.  Wow did this NOT feel fun. At all.  Superman is supposed to be the fun guy.  There were more smiles, intentional laughs and fun scenes from ANY of the Nolan Batman films, and that guy is SUPPOSED to be dark and gritty.  There is almost NO joy in this movie, other than maybe a FEW lines that were supposed to lighten the mood, but fell flat on me because they simply weren't funny.  There are so many more things I hated about this movie, but I really don't want to get into spoiler territory.  Proceed with caution, I think this one if for Superfans only.

Plot: **
Acting: ** 1/2
Writing: *
Direction: *
Technical: Waxy and bad visuals.  As usual, though, Hans Zimmer delivers with the score.  Great music!
X-Factors: Shannon, and some of the rest of the cast were okay for what they were given, The Score is good.  Just buy the soundtrack and call it a day.
Verdict:  * 1/2
Will This Movie end up in my collection?  NOPE.
