"A MOSTLY spoiler free Review of 'Star Trek: Into Darkness' Directed By: J.J. Abrams"

The newest installment of JJ Abrams' (i.e. Steve's lover) Star Trek did not disappoint me.  I was a little lukewarm on JJ's original Star Trek movie, while I thought it was alright, I thought he spent a little too much time paying fan service to all the diehard Star Trek fans out there, and not enough time trying to get us non-trek fans on board.  This one definitely had more of that, but I found it was dealt with rather early in the film, and the last 3/4 of the movie were left to just stand on its own two feet.  Benedict Cumberbatch was a great addition to this film and he plays the villain very well.  There were some references to Star Trek lore that were lost on me completely but made my cohort (Steve) very happy when they were mentioned.  I feel there was a really good balance of insider references, and good pure character driven action.  All the familiar characters from the first film are back, but this is notably a Spock/Kirk story for sure.  If you're weary because you're not really a Star Trek fan, fear not, there's something here for everyone.  The action pieces are great, the suspense is good, and there is even a bit that made me a little emotional.  I really enjoyed the ride, and I will most likely look to revisit these films again soon.

Plot: *** 1/2
Acting: ****
Writing: *** 1/2
Direction: ****
Technical: Very smooth looking special effects and sound design
X-Factors: Great Performances from many of the cast members, most notably Cumberbatch, Quinto and Simon Pegg
Verdict:  *** 1/2
Will This Movie end up in my collection?  Probably not, as I'm not really into "Star Trek" on the whole, but a nice bundle pack of the first Abrams film and this one for like $10 or so may change that!  If you're a fan of Trek, I'd say it's a no-brainer.
