I did not know what to think of this movie, I did not know anything going into it so I was hoping for a good surprise. It has a pretty good cast with Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Guy Pearce, and Gary Oldman so I was hopeful. The director I knew little about, the only movie I saw of John Hillcoat was The Road and it was decent. I also love movies based on true events so I was pretty positive going in.
The plot revolves around three brother during the prohibition era running Moonshine and pretty much having their way around the county. They are known as indestructible in the county because of their run ins with horrible situation and coming out alive. Everything is going well until a crooked Special Deputy shows up and wants a cut of everyone's business. There is also two consecutive loves stories going on which really did not need to be in there. Things go bad for the brothers and their immortality is put into question.
I did not like this movie, not one bit. It showed promise and it started in the middle to pick up but went nowhere. I have many issues with this movie, and how much was based in reality. One think I know a scar that bad does not heal that quick. It was all over the place, Gary Oldman is in it for no reason. The only saving grace is Guy Pearce, his performance was great compared to everyone else. I used to stick up for Shia, but after watching this I just can not anymore. The ending was horrible, I just don't know if its true or not. Honestly I just don't care, about any of them or their story.
